Trailer Buying Guide and Frequently Asked Questions

A trailer should fit the cargo, tow vehicle and work you plan to do. Use these questions to narrow your choices.

What type of trailer should I buy?

Choose around the cargo and loading method. Utility trailers are easy to load, enclosed trailers protect cargo, dump trailers unload bulk material, equipment trailers carry machinery, car haulers move vehicles and concession trailers support mobile businesses.

How do I choose the right trailer size?

Measure the full length, width and height of the cargo, including attachments. Leave room for loading, tie-downs, doors, ramps and future needs. Deck size alone is not enough; the trailer’s weight ratings must also fit the load.

What do GVWR and payload mean?

GVWR is the maximum allowed weight of the loaded trailer. Payload is the weight the trailer can carry after subtracting the trailer’s empty weight.

Single axle or tandem axle?

Single-axle trailers can fit lighter loads and smaller trailers. Tandem-axle trailers are commonly used for larger or heavier loads and may provide more capacity and stability. The right choice depends on the trailer rating, cargo and tow vehicle.

Do you sell new and used trailers?

Yes. Deohn's Tailers offers new trailers and used trailers when available. Inventory changes daily, so call before visiting if you need a specific type or size.

Do you offer financing or rent-to-own?

Deohn's Tailers works with multiple financing resources and offers rent-to-own options for eligible customers. Approval, terms, fees and eligible trailers vary by program.

Can Deohn's Tailers service a trailer bought somewhere else?

Yes. The Hudson service department works on all makes, models and brands of trailers. Call with the trailer information and a description of the repair needed.

Do you work on boat trailers?

Yes. Available boat-trailer work may include bearings, wheels, tires, brakes, wiring and selected structural repairs.
